The Real Thing

I had a second fitting this weekend. This time it was the real thing. No more mint green icky fabric. Yes! My mom did an amazing job. The fit is perfect and the dress is exactly what I was hoping for, beautiful, elegant , and simple. I feel truly blessed to have such a generous and talented mother. I can't wait for everyone to see it!
It's all starting to seem very real.
Very real and very cool.

Groom Wear

the kilt is en route: Scotland called and confused Jessie to prove it. The trouble is once it arrives, how will I know if it looks right? Luckily, the Earth created Sean Connery, who has written a handy pictoral guide to wearing the celtic man skirt:
Sittin'Doon wi'oot flashin unmentionables (the trick is to keep em in the jacket pocket)

Approriate kilt undies (and sidearm)

Knee lunge during bride and groom dance (kilt is improvised and imagined).

And scene.

The Location

My dear friend Med School Mama sent me this image to post. For those of you not familiar with the location of the wedding, an artistic interpretation of Northeast Creek can be seen above. Those of you who do know the creek you will notice how much nicer it looks without Route 3 blazing through the middle of it.

First Fitting

I just returned from Bar Harbor where I had my first dress fitting. It was a practice dress made with an old piece of lime green cotton cloth. My mom did a beautiful job putting it together but the quality of the fabric made it feel, and look, like a shapeless old sack. I have confidence that, when made with the ivory raw silk we chose, the dress will be beautiful. I may just hold my breath until then.

Martron of Hono(u)r

Milja, her boy Rex, and Dinah

Jessie's matron-of-hono(u)r Milja is here visiting this weekend with her son Rex (husband Tony is back up in Bar Harbor coaching the mighty MDI YMCA swimming team). She pointed out that we had yet to make mention of her on this site, and so let me make the long overdue introduction.

Wedding blog vistors, Milja. Milja, wedding blog visitors. More will follow as the wedding approaches.

Aggggh!

Those of you in the States who received one of these in your invitation in order to send back a funky postcard RSVP:

Need to add one of these for it to get here:

I apologise- despite many years of bitter experience in dealing with government institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, I didn't see any mention of a postcard rate increase along side the first class increase when I ordered the stamps from the usually on-top-of-their game USPS web site. Why on earth they didn't have stamps at the new rate ready to go and on sale at the time of the change is beyond me. Harrumph.

Picture it - pine coneless, white and blue flowers instead, carrot cake (no nuts) with cream cheese frosting. Weasel prefers chocolate so we'll have a groom's cake too. The reception will begin with ice cream sandwiches so be sure to bring your sweet tooth.
