Bread isn't as easy as many people think. Trouble with these new bread making machines is that they have democratised bread, making any tom, paula and abdul think that they can whip up a tasti-loaf when in fact bread doesn't nessecarily want to be democratised. Where would our local bakers be if we all began making our own 'Howard Dean' style bread eh? Can you imagine a world without the crass right wing banter that takes place next to the ovens in every single bakery across the globe? I used to make 240 loaves an hour at Merv's Hot Bread Kitchen. Some folk shun the ipod, I shun the bread machine (although the wife really wants one so we'll probably get one really soon.)

Btw: I do applaud your efforts, the second loaf looks like an absolute cracker.
