Poor Goose!

Scout made it 9 months and 15 days before she broke down with her first fever and cold. This picture pretty much sums it up. I think we are all feeling a bit like this today. Plus it's March. And it's cold. Enough already! We're looking forward to blooming crocuses and warm sunny skies.

But It Is Educational!

Sending me out to buy toys is like sending Jack to sell the cow in Jack and the Beanstalk. Where one would expect Jack/me to come back with food- in this case a wholesome and educational toy for Scout (below):
(Standard German made educational toy, 1" plain cube, $45.99)

I instead return with the equivalent of a handful of magic beans:
(Loud hair-dryer powered ADD inducing mania machine that shoots plastic balls out its top accompanied by clown music- the Gypsy Rose Lee of toys)

I swear to god it is educational in some sense, somehow.

Around the House

It's been a quiet week all told around here. No trips , a couple visits, a few walks dotted along the days. The little missy has been doing more of all the things she does: eating, walking, growing, and yammering away. Here are a few shots to keep you all up to speed as to what she looks like this week!

Scout enjoys the tub.

A sighting of the elusive tub elf.

Holla!

Striking a pose.

Scout's Great Nan Bet (Dan's grandmother) passed away on Wednesday (her 80th birthday). And even though Scout never met her in the flesh she'll grow up hearing the stories of this very colorful lady who lived a great big life. We love you Nan Bet!

June 1st - March 1st = 9 months old!!!

Nine months into this living, growing, changing experiment and Scout is proving a fun and funny little kid. A few of her vital stats include: six teeth, 30 inches tall, crawling, standing and cruising, eating all sorts of things, loving prunes, spinach, and pears, just saying no to lentils and garbanzo beans. She is very busy.

We've spent the last few months traveling up to Bar Harbor during the middle part of each week to help out some friends. It's been hard to be away from Daddy and dogs but on the upside we've spent some quality time with Grandparent Set MDI, girlfriends, and new babies. It's been great and has helped us pass the long SNOWY winter months.

Ms. Perpetual Motion came for a visit last week while Med School Mama ran some errands. Scout and I enjoyed our time together and even posed for a few photos Ms. PM took as part of her photo essay: 'The Occupants of a House in Rockland on a February Afternoon."

The photographer's self portrait.

*Worriers please note: dangerous exposed outlet has since been plugged and dangling cord removed.

Yesterday we had a bit of a scare and I was heartened to see that my motherly instinct were fiercely intact. (After nine months the sharp edges of my brain function are a little rounded - child-proofed if you will.)
I was mid dishes and Scout was mid nap when I heard our duplex neighbor screaming for help. I scurried outside just has she burst out her back door with smoke streaming out behind. I sprinted back inside grabbed Scout, the dogs, and the telephone and quickly called the fire department. By the time they arrived our neighbor had the mostly overblown kitchen fire under control so the two engines, eight fire personnel, and newspaper photographer were a bit redundant. Needless to say it was a bit jarring but in the end kind of funny. I couldn't resist twitching the curtain and snapping a photo of this memorable non-event.
